Laser Engraving in Northampton, MA — Custom Work from Jones Co Creative Space
If you're looking for laser engraving in Northampton, MA, Jones Co Creative Space offers custom work out of Western Massachusetts — less than 15 minutes from downtown Northampton. We engrave wood, leather, acrylic, slate, and certain coated metals with a focus on original designs, not generic clip art.
I'm Mike Jones — tattoo artist, painter, sculptor, and the person running the laser. Most clients come to me because they want something drawn or designed specifically for their piece, not dropped in from a stock library. If you already have artwork, I can work with that too.
What Laser Engraving Looks Like Here
The work ranges from simple text on a cutting board to detailed portraits on wood panels to branded leather goods. A few things I do regularly:
- Custom gifts — cutting boards, wooden boxes, whiskey flasks, picture frames
- Signage and small business branding on wood or acrylic
- Pet portraits and memorial pieces on slate or wood
- Logo or artwork reproduction on leather goods
- Art prints and decorative panels
Because I come from a fine-art and tattooing background, I pay close attention to line quality and tonal range. An engraved portrait looks different depending on how you handle gradients and contrast — I spend time on that rather than just running a file through default settings.
Serving Northampton, MA and the Pioneer Valley
The studio is in Western Massachusetts, roughly 10–15 minutes from Northampton depending on traffic. Most clients either drop off their item or ship it. I can also meet locally for pickups or drop-offs if we arrange it in advance.
I work with clients across the Pioneer Valley — Northampton, Easthampton, Amherst, Greenfield, Holyoke — as well as people who ship pieces from further out. For larger or fragile items, we'll talk through the safest way to get your piece here and back to you.
Pricing and How Projects Work
Pricing depends on three things: the size of the engraving area, the complexity of the design, and whether you need design work done or you're supplying finished artwork.
- Small, simple pieces (a name or short text on a small item): generally in the lower end of the range, starting around $25–$50
- Mid-size custom designs (a portrait, logo, or detailed graphic on a wood panel or leather item): typically $75–$200 depending on complexity
- Larger or multi-piece orders: quoted individually — bulk pricing is available for repeat items
If you need design help, I'll quote that separately based on how much work is involved. Supplying your own clean, high-resolution file keeps the cost lower. I'll tell you upfront if a file needs rework before it can be engraved well.
Turnaround is usually one to two weeks for most projects. Rush timelines are sometimes possible — ask when you reach out.
When Jones Co Creative Space Might Not Be the Right Fit
I'll be straight about limitations:
- I don't engrave bare metal (stainless steel, aluminum, etc.) without a coating — if your item requires metal engraving or anodizing, you'll need a shop with a fiber laser
- I'm not set up for very high-volume production runs — if you need 500 identical items fast, a larger production house will serve you better
- I don't work from extremely low-resolution images and won't promise results I can't deliver — if your artwork isn't usable, I'll say so rather than run it and hand you a bad piece
Most one-off custom pieces, gifts, and small business orders are exactly what I do well. Large-scale manufacturing is not.
